Somerville Police Officer Anthony Manzelli Retires After 32 Years

The department called Manzelli "the most honest, caring and compassionate officer the SPD has ever worked with."

SOMERVILLE, MA — A beloved Somerville police officer retired this week after more than three decades of service. Officer Anthony Manzelli, a 32-year veteran of the department, was highlighted for his community policing.

"Officer Tony is the most honest, caring and compassionate officers [sic] the SPD has ever worked with and the same goes when he is off duty," the Somerville Police Department said in a statement. "Tony is an extremely humble man and possess qualities truly admirable in a person."

On a Facebook post announcing Manzelli's retirement, dozens of residents praised him for his many years with the Somerville Police Department.

Commenters called him "a community police officer before there was even such a term" and "one fo the good guys." One resident asked, "What will Union Square do without him?"

"Take care of yourself Tony, enjoy your retirement!" the Somerville Police Department said.
