Somerville Renews Contract With Longtime Ambulance Provider

Somerville has remained at the center of the company's growth throughout its existence.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The city will continue relying on the same ambulance provider it has had for nearly half a century.

Cataldo Ambulance Service announced this week that it has renewed its contract with the City of Somerville to continue providing 911 ambulance and emergency medical services. The company has served as Somerville's primary ambulance provider continuously since Sept. 1, 1977, responding to emergency calls from residents, visitors and businesses throughout the city. The renewal comes as Cataldo enters its 50th year in business.

"We are grateful to the City of Somerville for its continued trust and partnership, and to our paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and support staff whose work has sustained this relationship for nearly five decades," the company said.

Cataldo was founded by Bob and Diana Cataldo in Somerville in 1977 as Somerville Ambulance Service. What began with two ambulances and three employees later expanded through acquisitions of other ambulance companies across Massachusetts, including Caggiano Ambulance Service, Atlantic Ambulance, North Shore Ambulance and Lyons Ambulance Service. The company remains headquartered in Somerville and is still family owned under President and CEO Dennis Cataldo.

Cataldo has grown into one of the largest private emergency medical service providers in Massachusetts. The company now employs more than 1,200 paramedics, EMTs and support staff, operates a fleet of more than 200 ambulances and medical transport vehicles, and provides dedicated 911 ambulance coverage in 18 Massachusetts communities. In addition to emergency response, Cataldo also provides interfacility transportation, wheelchair transportation, mobile integrated healthcare services and medical coverage for public events.
