Somerville Restaurant, Chef 2020 James Beard Award Semifinalists
James Beard Awards have been called the Oscars of the culinary world. Two local names are 2020 semifinalists.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville chef and restaurant are up for James Beard Awards this year. The regional semifinalists for the awards – sometimes referred to as the Oscars of the culinary world – were announced Wednesday.
In Somerville, the semifinalists are in the following categories:
- Best Chef, Northeast (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT): Cassie Piuma, Sarma
- Best New Restaurant: Tanám
The James Beard Awards, aka the James Beard Foundation Awards or simply the Beard Awards, are the food industry's highest honor. They are designed to recognize those who are making America's food culture more diverse and sustainable.
