Somerville’s R.F. O’Sullivan's Celebrates Return With New Special

The restaurant reopened on Saturday after being closed since May 2021.

SOMERVILLE, MA — R.F. O'Sullivan & Son, a classic Irish pub at 282 Beacon Street in Somerville, is celebrating its return to the city with a new “Early BURG Special.”

Operating under new management, the restaurant reopened on Saturday after being closed since May 2021 and will continue it's 30-year run as a laid-back hangout centered around burgers and beer while introducing an expanded menu.

R.F. O’Sullivan's & Son is now debuting the “Early BURG Special” for the month of May to commemorate its reopening. Available weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m., the “Early BURG Special” prices each of R.F.’s nine signature burgers at just $10 each.

The pub’s signature burgers include The Celtic with lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, pickles and American cheese, Don't Poke the Bear with bacon, maple bacon glaze, fried egg and cheddar, and Mushroom & Swiss with horseradish pepper sauce. Twists on the basic burger are seen in The Greek with lettuce, tomato, onion, tzatziki, roasted red pepper and feta and The Impossible, a plant-based patty topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.

The restaurant – notorious for going through hundreds of pounds of beef weekly – also adds bar staples to the menu like The Fenway Frank with peppers and onions, Bar Pretzel with beer cheese, Steak & Cheese Eggrolls with sriracha aioli, Cheddar Bites with marinara, a trio of salads, wings, fries, and onion rings.

R.F. O'Sullivan & Son has eight rotating beers on draught as well as another 11 options available by bottle or can. On the spirits side, there are six house cocktails like El Camino with mezcal, reposado, yellow chartreuse, pineapple, agave, lime, and mole bitters and Lord Stanley Cupwith Jägermeister, triple sec, and ginger beer.

Lauded as one of Greater Boston's best hidden gems, the restaurant features 15 bar seats, 30 dining seats, three HDTVs, vintage signs, and a fireplace. Soon, R.F. O'Sullivan & Son will debut lunch service available Friday through Sunday.

R.F. O'Sullivan & Son will be open Monday through Thursday from 4 to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m.
