Somerville Transfer Fee (Tax)

What happened to Joe?

I attended the Transfer Fee (Tax) meeting last night, 5/7/18 and was blessed by the presence of the Mayor who offered a 5 minute blurb on the benefits of passing this tax. Then like a flash he was gone. So, as a homeowner who lives in my home I may be exempt from the tax, for now anyway, listened politely to Mayor Joe. Then it was like the Secret Service whisking the president away, he was gone in a flash. The man who is responsible has a moment to share his side of the story, and has no respect to stay and listen to the people who voted him in. Shame, shame, shame.

His most recent 2 1/2 tax increase to fund a new High School has hit me in the pocket yet again just so his boys will have a new school to go to when the time comes. Hopefully they won't be to tired from skating at the Curtatone memorial skating rink he acquired from the State, for the boys.

He has sold out from under us prime property to build affordable housing, which if it were available for such building may have caused me to be for the tax. No, it was his power and greed to sell out to the highest bidder so he could have a legacy.

BTW, any new high rises you see at Assembly or in Union Square has generated at least a million dollars just in permits alone and has increased the tax base in the city ten fold. The 20 story building at Assembly was built for appx $170 million and just recently sold for $300 Million, netting the owners a sizeable windfall. Wonder how much the city gets and wonder if it less than what Mayor joe is getting. Just saying.
