Somerville Will Get A Comedy Club After All
Plans to bring Union Comedy to Bow Market fell through earlier this year, but another club is set to take its place.

SOMERVILLE, MA – An area comedy club will relocate to Somerville after more than two decades in Cambridge. The Comedy Studio has joined the list of confirmed spaces at the upcoming Bow Market in Union Square, according to Cambridge Day. Owner Rick Jenkins cited rising rents at the club's current location above Hong Kong Restaurant in Harvard as the impetus for the move.
The Comedy Studio is the second comedy club to eye Bow Market. Bow Market developers earlier this year opted to back out of talks with Union Comedy, a concept from six area comedians, citing the theatre's status as a "marquee space." Union Comedy organizers claimed talks had been handled in a "dishonest manner" and the developers wanted to work with a more "well-known institution."
The Comedy Studio will continue to operate in Cambridge through the end of 2017, Cambridge Day reported. Bow Market is slated to open next year.
