Somerville Woman Dead After Undergoing Procedure At Her Home

Police responded to the Somerville home on Friday after receiving a call that the resident, a 35-year-old woman, was in medical distress.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Officials are investigating the death of an Everett woman and the hospitalization of a Somerville woman after the pair are belived to have undergone a medical procedure at a Somerville home Thursday, Everett police said Monday evening.

Everett police responded to the Bucknam Street home on Friday after receiving a call that a 35-year-old woman who lived in the home was in "medical distress," police said.

The first woman was taken to the hospital, where she died. Investigators later learned that another woman had also undergone a procedure at the home, after which she was hospitalized.

Police said that "the investigation into the details of the alleged medical procedure and how the women’s injuries were sustained is ongoing at this time," though law enforcement told several outlets including NBC10 Boston that the woman died in connection with an illegal liposuction operation.

The medical examiner will determine the woman's cause of death and the investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, and Somerville Police.
