Somerville's Assembly Row: What's Coming In 2018

Ten openings ranging from new restaurants to department stores were announced Wednesday.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Assembly Row continues its expansion this year on the heels of an explosive 2017 that saw 18 new openings at the development. On Wednesday, 10 new restaurants and retailers were announced for 2018, as well as an upcoming hotel and park.

Last year's openings include Trader Joe's, fitness studio collection FITRow and retail and dining spots like Mike's Pastry, the American Fresh Brewhouse and Columbia. Move-ins have begun at Montaje, one of two new residences at Assembly Row, and the second, Alloy, is slated to open in March.

An Autograph Collection by Marriott hotel will open this summer, and Assembly Line Park will bring additional open space, event programming and bocce courts to Assembly Row this year.

The new restaurant and retail openings at Assembly Row in 2018 are:

  • Andy Husbands’ The Smoke Shop BBQ
  • AROW Express (convenience store)
  • Bath & Body Works | White Barn
  • Burlington
  • Capital One Café (now open)
  • Carmen’s Trattoria & Italian Pub
  • CycleBar (a fitness studio in FITRow)
  • Lucky Strike Social
  • MidiCi, the Neapolitan Pizza Company (now open)
  • Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store

"Assembly Row in Somerville is the perfect next location for The Smoke Shop and our slow-cooked, wood smoked, competition-style barbecue because of all the new residents, entertainment venues and retail," Andy Husbands, author and owner/chef of The Smoke Shop, said in a statement. "The new restaurant will be 4,500 square feet and includes a 30-seat bar, 2 patios and world class American BBQ with a 200+ American Whiskey collection and over 50 craft beers. We are excited to serve this neighborhood and its high volume of visitors with our family-style hospitality."

Assembly Row’s office space is completely leased, including 450 Artisan Way and more than 700,000 square feet at Partners Healthcare. In response to the demand, Federal Realty is now actively marketing a new 250,000 square foot, Class A office building on 100 Foley Street just steps from the MBTA station and the property’s new hotel.

"So much is happening here at Assembly Row as we continue to evolve and expand, appealing to a growing audience of visitors, residents, and office workers," Matt Ehrie, vice president and general manager of Assembly Row, said in a statement.
