Somerville's Assembly Row: What's Happening This Summer?

Here's how you can enjoy one of Somerville's hottest up-and-coming areas this season.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Assembly Row, the shopping, dining and entertainment complex that's in the midst of a massive expansion to more than 100 storefronts, announced its schedule of summer events on Wednesday. The lineup includes dozens of events that are free, open to the public and take advantage of the Row's prime waterfront location along the Mystic River.

Highlights include the 10th annual Riverfest, 4th annual Assembly Row Bar Stars, Live Music Thursdays, Riverfront Yoga and more. The events are designed to complement the dozens of openings expected this year, including Assembly Line Park, Mike's Pastry, American Fresh Brewhouse's upcoming pub and more.

"Events are the lifeblood of our neighborhood in the summer, and this exciting lineup will enhance what Assembly Row already offers and the new restaurants, shopping and experiences that will open throughout the year," Matt Ehrie, general manager of Assembly Row, said in a statement.

  • Yoga in the Park: Start summer weekends right with free yoga overlooking the Mystic River. Yoga in the Park takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. from May 6– September 2 in DCR’s Baxter Park. Advance registration is required for this event and will be available online each week.
  • Fast and Furriest 5K: Assembly Row will be hosting the Fast and Furriest 5K – Run, Walk, Wag for MSPCA – Angell onSunday, May 21 in Baxter Park. All funds will benefit all the animals served by the MSPCA-Angell in its adoption centers, hospitals and programs.
  • Tots@10: This free monthly series for toddlers offers interactive experiences to get them moving, thinking and creating, and includes magic shows, concerts, dance parties and yoga – among others. The programs take place on the fourthWednesday of each month at different locations around The Row. The schedule can be viewed at: http://www.assemblyrow.com/play/tots-10
  • Live Music Thursdays: Assembly Row is bringing back the summer music series. Running select Thursdays from May-Sept. from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Baxter Park amphitheater, Assembly visitors will get a taste of jazz, rock, bluegrass and much more. Select dates include: 5/25, 6/8, 6/22, 7/6, 8/10, 8/24.
  • Memorial on the Mystic-Concert and Fireworks Tribute: This performance capstones Memorial Week with a musical performance that illustrates the true meaning of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29 at 7:30pm in Baxter Park. The evening ceremony will combine the talents of the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, vocal ensemble N ’Harmony, and special performances by the Somerville All-City Chorus and the Somerville High School Chorus.
  • Lupus Walk: The Lupus Research Alliance will host its 14th Annual Boston Walk with Us to Cure Lupus on Saturday, June 3in Baxter Park.
  • FITROW Health and Wellness Day: Join Assembly Row and FITROW, the new fitness concept opening this summer for a Health and Wellness Day on Saturday, June 10 from 11am-4pm. The event will include family friendly activities, giveaways, and fitness related activations from FITROW tenants. Fitness classes will be offered by Title Boxing Club, Orangetheory Fitness, Club Pilates, and barre n9ne. Pre-registration will become available Monday, June 5 at noon. FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
  • Summer Solstice Yoga: A special edition of Assembly’s summer yoga series will take place at sunset June 21, the longest day of the year.
  • Dancing on the Row: Assembly Row will transform into a salsa dance party once a month on June 9, July 7, and August 4from 6-8pm. A free salsa dance lesson from MetaMovements will precede an evening of dancing and live entertainment.
  • Assembly Row Bar Stars: Assembly Row again will crown the best bartenders and best drinks along the Row. Scheduled forThursday, July 13 on the parking garage roof deck, guests will enjoy food and beverage samples, entertainment and music. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Groundwork Somerville.
  • Riverfest: Assembly Row’s signature event features a weekend of activities from Sept. 8-10. In partnership with The City of Somerville and DCR, the 10th annual event will feature a live, local music; free children’s activities; and fireworks over the Mystic River at sundown on the 9th.
