Somerville's Ax-Throwing Bar Opens This Week

Your chance to chuck an ax with your beer is right around the corner.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Is your night out suffering from a lack of sharp objects? Urban Axes, the Philadelphia-based chain of ax-throwing facilities (with booze), is set to open in Somerville this week.

The 7,500-square-foot facility will open its ax-throwing portion Friday, Dec. 7, but the bar is not expected to open for another couple of weeks, according to Boston.com. The space features four arenas, with four targets in each, and can fit 100-120 people, the site reported.

All events start with safety instructions on wielding the 1.5-pound axes and one-on-one throwing practice with a trained coach. Then participants may take part in a round robin tournament, which is scored by the facility's coaches and capped by a knockout round to crown the winner, BizBash previously reported.
