Somerville's Spoke Wine Bar Reopening

The beloved Davis Square restaurant closed in December amid owner Flea Foster's health issues.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A popular Davis Square wine bar and highly acclaimed industry darling will reopen this spring, months after an abrupt shutdown that at the time was thought to be permanent. Spoke Wine Bar closed its doors Dec. 22 amid owner Flea Foster's fight against ALS.

Now the restaurant is reopening, Eater Boston reported Thursday, citing a job posting on BostonChefs.com. The eatery is seeking full- and part-time servers and bartenders as it looks toward a spring opening.

Foster's role in the new Spoke is unclear, but co-owner Dave Jick told Boston Magazine the wine bar's second coming is the brainchild of bartender Mary Kurth. Jick, who notified the licensing commission last November of his intent to temporarily close the restaurant and reopen it with a new concept early this year, will be a partner, according to Eater.

Spoke will retain its name, and the look and and concept will largely be the same, Jick told Boston Magazine.
