Last GLX Bridge Closure Of 2019 Starts Friday

The third and final bridge closure of the year was moved up from July.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The third Green Line Extension bridge closure this year, originally scheduled for mid-summer, starts Friday, May 17. The Medford Street bridge in Gilman Square will remain closed through spring 2020.

Traffic will be detoured around the work zone via Pearl Street and McGrath Highway. The bridge was originally expected to close in July, but the timeline was moved up after coordination between the GLX and the Somerville High School Building Project.

Following work on Somerville High School this spring and summer, GLX will modify the bridge and create a longer span with structural improvements to accommodate new tracks.
