Union Square To See Road Closures, Bus Detours For 6 Months

SOMERVILLE, MA – The next phase of the Somerville Ave. Utilities & Streetscape Improvements Project begins in early November. This will result in closures as Somerville Avenue, as well as detours for certain bus routes.

Through traffic on Somerville Ave. eastbound between Dane Street and Bow Street will be diverted. Local traffic for businesses and residents will be able to take Somerville Ave. to Bow Street, according to city officials.

Three stops on MBTA bus routes 87 inbound and 85 inbound will be temporarily relocated.

Route 87 Inbound

• Somerville Ave. opposite School St. (in front of Be in Union yoga)

→ Use Somerville Ave. opposite Loring St. instead

• Somerville Ave. @ Carlton St.

→ Use Washington St. @ Kingman Rd. instead

Routes 85 & 87 Inbound

• Somerville Ave. @ Union Sq. (in front of Grooves)

→ Use Washington St. @ Kingman Rd. instead

Traffic impacts will be in effect until April 2019.
