UPS Hiring Thousands in Mass. This Holiday Season

UPS has announced a mass hiring in the Bay State ahead of this holiday season and is seeking more than 2,600 part-time package handlers, drivers and and driver-handlers.

The openings are part of a nationwide hiring spree of 95,000 employees this holiday season. According to UPS, several of part-time or seasonal employees have gone on to become full-time UPS workers.

"For many, it’s an opportunity to earn some extra cash for the holidays," said UPS CEO David Abney in an announcement. "But with many of our holiday hires getting permanent jobs with us, it can also be a gateway to a career."

Abney himself is a former part-time employee of UPS; according to the company, he began loading trucks at night in 1974 while studying business at Delta State University in Mississippi.

The company said between 2012 and 2014, more than 37 percent of seasonal workers landed permanent jobs with UPS after the holidays.

Salaries range from $10.16 to $26 an hour, and many positions include a weekly retention bonus.
