WATCH: Somerville High Schoolers Deliver Individual Messages of Inspiration
The teens placed messages on each student's locker and delivered letters of appreciation to each teacher.
SOMERVILLE, MA – In response to a rollercoaster of a month, a teacher at Somerville High School asked students to "check the 'pulse'" of one of their classmates.
U.S History teacher Kevin Dua suggested checking in with a "friend, classmate you might know or that person you've never spoken to" and pushed students to respond by going beyond "a bake sale or deciding what color a club t-shirt should be."
Earlier this week, Dua's students landed on an idea for inspiring the Somerville High School community – they placed handwritten messages of encouragement and hand-drawn hearts on every school locker and hung individual letters of appreciation for all staff and faculty members on each classroom or office door.
