Where To Get McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Near Somerville

Select McDonald's locations will give away cups of the sauce on Oct. 7.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Perhaps inspired by its shoutout on this season of "Rick and Morty," McDonald's is bringing back its fabled Szechuan Sauce. That's the good news. The bad news, sauce lovers, is it's back for one day only.

On October 7 at 2 p.m. local time, select McDonald's throughout the U.S. will be just giving away cups of the sauce that recently went for more than $15,000 a half gallon on ebay. The little edible miracles will materialize at just 1000 McDonald's locations across the country.

So where can you get it around here? Unfortunately, the McDonald's at Twin City Plaza is not participating, but you won't have to travel far to get your hands on the Szechuan Sauce.

Here are four area McDonald's giving it away:

  • 540 Commonweath Avenue, Boston

If customers don't get their hands on any Szechuan sauce, they can take comfort in snagging a limited edition screen-printed poster or sticker for one of the nine sauces (including Szechuan and a new Signature Sauce) designed by artists from Chicago's Delicious Design League.

The sauce launch is part of a push to promote the new buttermilk chicken tenders at McDonald's, which are made with 100% white meat and no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. The four-piece tenders option joins McDonald's signature sandwiches, straight-off-the-runway onesies, and the erstwhile "frork" as a way to rebrand the decades-old fast food company.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated that the sauce would be available at four locations in greater Boston. The limited edition posters are available in Cambridge, Everett and Allston; however, the sauce is solely available at the Comm. Ave. McDonald's.
