Art Aids Art-- Sale of Art from South Africa

A special event is planned for Tuesday, August 30th in my garden from 6 to 8 pm.  We are having a sale of traditional beadwork, fabrics, jewelry and other art and crafts created by unemployed South African women of color. Art Aids Art pays fair trade prices for the creations of these talented artists, enabling these women to support their families, and then markets the work here in the states.  Any additional profits are directed to support community programs at Ekhaya Ekasi, an arts and education center Art Aids Art built in Khayelitsha township near Capetown, South Africa..  Please enter thru alley 701 at Tremont St (between Union Park and Upton St.).  The first gate on the right leads directly to the garden.   Please go to www.artaidsart.org if you would like to see the kind of art you will have a chance to buy and take a look at the attachment with this email.  Use this as an opportunity to get your unique Christmas presents early.  You will find that the products are very reasonably priced.  Be sure to see the Obama/Nelson Mandela themed fabrics.  Even Republicans will love them.  Spread the word.  Please rsvp to ohharriet@gmail.com if you would like to attend.

As a special treat, Jose Vasquez, a formerly homeless artist, will be present to show and sell his wonderful cartoon art.  Jose's cartoons address issues relating to homelessness as well as several political incorrect themes.  We will be accepting commissions for Jose to create unique personalized pictures of your pets.
