Manners Makeover

Develop a Polished and Professional New Persona with Manners Coach Susan Callender at the Boston Center for Adult Education

WHAT: It’s a tough world out there -- a fast paced and highly competitive job market, and everyone wants to get ahead. Learn how to stand out from the masses with “Manners Makeover,” a series of professional etiquette and protocol classes at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE). Instructor and Manners Coach Susan Callender, CEO of Oh My Gauche!, will teach students strategic ways to conduct themselves in important situations for success in the workplace. This 3-session workshop beginning on January 23rd, 2012 will focus on a different subject each night including: Creating a Positive ProfessionalImage, Etiquette for the Office and Dining Like a Diplomat.

Since first impressions are everything, it’s time to refine your social skills in the workplace. Susan Callender will begin the workshop series with “Creating a Positive Professional Image,” teaching students how subtle changes, such as a handshake or body language, can enhance level of authority. Students will leave this session with an understanding of how to carry themselves in a meeting and make a positive first impression.

It’s true, we do not communicate the way we used to, the typical forms of interaction with colleagues such as phone calls and face-to-face conversations by the water cooler have been replaced with Skype, social networking and email correspondence. In “Etiquette for the Office,” Callender will address these changes and the connection between communication and corporate culture.

Some of us know that elbows off the table, placing a napkin gently in the lap, or a warm, gracious “thank you” to the host are all well-mannered givens. However, what if you are the host? In the third session “Dining Like a Diplomat,” any host or hostess will learn the professional secrets about how to properly entertain guests. Students will practice their newly acquired skills during a full four-course dinner.

The Instructor: Susan Callender is a trusted and recognized etiquette expert, founder and CEO of Oh My Gauche!, a leading provider of etiquette and protocol training for clients in the continental United States and abroad. A recipient of the coveted “Best of Boston” award, she has compiled an enviable list of credentials, and has been featured in Boston magazine; the Boston Globe; the Boston Herald; CNN, ABC, and CBS affiliates; Daily Candy; the Improper Bostonian; Elegant Wedding; and National Public Radio.
