Sharpen Your Writing Skills with Notable Experts in the Field at the
Boston Center for Adult Education
WHAT: On Saturday, May 5th, 2012 from 10:00AM to 3:30PM the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will hold its first ever Writing Symposium "Writing 122: A Magazine Writing Workshop" for recreational writers, emerging professionals or simply those wishing to make their writing skills as sharp as a No. 2 pencil. Open to students of all levels, the symposium will cover topics including sports, fashion, entertainment, sex and relationships and food and wine taught by some of the area’s most recognized scribes and editors.
Instructors include: Anne Vickman Associate Editor at Boston magazine (Health& Beauty), Alexandra Hall Fashion & Beauty Editor of The Improper Bostonian (Fashion), Scott Kearnan Editorial Director of Stuff Magazine (Entertainment & Music), Annie B. Copps Food & Travel Writer (Food), David Bernstein of the Boston Phoenix (Politics), Neely Steinberg freelance writer for Boston Globe magazine and Blast magazine (Sex & Relationships) and Kerry Byrne of The Boston Herald, contributing writer for Sports Illustrated (Sports).
Writing 122 features Christopher Cox, Senior Editor at Harper’s Magazine, as the lunchtime keynote speaker. Harper’s Magazine is the oldest continuously published monthly magazine in America.
The day will feature a series of workshops led by each instructor covering topics such as sports, health & beauty, fashion, entertainment and politics. For each section of the magazine, students will receive instruction, draft and submit content for their instructor’s review. Students’ submissions will be reviewed and the top three entries from each class will be selected to create 122, the first ever BCAE Magazine.
The 2012 symposium will be held at the Boston Center for Adult Education, located at 122 Arlington Street, Boston, MA. The cost of the symposium is $95 and includes lunch. Attendance will be capped at 60 students.
