Prosecutors: Unruly Passenger Hit Wife, Publicly Urinated on Plane

Darren Halliwell, 48, of England, was ordered held on $5,000 bail after his flight was diverted to Boston.

An unruly passenger onboard a British Airways flight diverted to Boston appeared in court Thursday after he allegedly assaulted his wife while the plane was in the air.

Darren Halliwell, 48, of England, was ordered held on $5,000 bail during his arraignment in East Boston District Court. In addition to hitting his wife, prosecutors say Halliwell attacked numerous flight attendants, urinated in public view and fell on several passengers.

Witnesses told investigators Halliwell had been drinking before he became aggressive.

The plane was bound for Houston when it was forced to land at Boston’s Logan Airport Wednesday. Halliwell was immediately arrested by State Police and charged with interfering with a flight crew. Additional charges could follow.

Halliwell was ordered to surrender his passport until the case is resolved.
