BookBreak Brings Authors to the Classroom

Students at Stoneham Central Middle School have been participating in the BookBreak author talk series, a program designed to ignite a passion for reading and writing among young learners. This innovative initiative connects students with bestselling authors through engaging virtual events, enriching their educational experience and fostering a love for literature. This opportunity was funded by the Stoneham Business and Community Education Foundation (SBCEF).

The BookBreak program offers a series of virtual author talks each year, specifically tailored for middle school students. These sessions not only feature renowned authors but also include interactive elements such as trivia games, read-alouds, and opportunities for students to ask questions.

Recently, Central Middle School hosted a viewing party in the media center for students to watch the interview with author Jeff Kinney, author of the very popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Students learned about his path to becoming a writer, and even got to follow a tutorial for how to draw the main characters. The school plans to host more of these author talks in the coming months. Teachers and students are excited about learning more about the authors of popular books in their upcoming curriculum, such as Lois Lowry who is the author of The Giver.
