Stoneham Historical Society & Museum

Archaeologist Nate Ramsayer will be back at the Stoneham Historical Society and Museum on Thursday, October 8, 2026. We have all heard the story of how in 1922, Egyptologist Howard Carter made one of the most memorable discoveries of all time—the tomb of King Tutankhamun. Nate will explain what made this such a noteworthy find? Why is King Tut the most well-known pharaoh from ancient Egypt? Where are the thousands of objects he was buried with found today? Come follow the footsteps of Howard Carter from just over 100 years ago, as we delve into the Valley of the Kings in search of this ancient legacy!Nate Ramsayer is a freelance biblical studies instructor, giving guest lectures at churches, synagogues, senior communities, schools, and universities around the country. He holds an M.A. degree in Hebrew Bible and the ancient Near East from Brandeis University. He is also an active archaeologist who has excavated at seven sites around the world, focusing mainly on Israel during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Nate’s scholarly research interests include biblical composition and manuscript history, ancient Near Eastern myths, and exploring points at which the archaeological record confirms or is at tension with the narrative found in the Bible. He has also worked extensively in the field of the Dead Sea Scrolls, presenting papers, giving lectures, working with museum exhibits, and even researching at the Qumran caves where the scrolls were found. Recently, Nate has delved into the fascinating world of Egyptology, offering many lectures on various aspects of ancient Egypt.Doors open at 6:45 PM. A brief business meeting will commence at 7:15 PM followed by our evening's program. As always, admission is free. We hope to see you there and bring a friend.

Somerville Theatre

The Phantom of the Opera — Live in Concert
Experience the legendary 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera on the big screen, accompanied live by the New England Film Orchestra, conducted by Gina Naggar, performing Carl Davis’s acclaimed symphonic orchestral score.
Starring Lon Chaney in his iconic portrayal of the Phantom, Rupert Julian’s film was the first major screen adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel and remains one of the defining works of silent cinema.
Davis’s score draws heavily on Gounod’s Faust — the opera at the center of the film’s Paris Opera House setting — while creating a haunting musical identity for the Phantom himself. As Davis described it: “horror, pure horror.” Performed live alongside the film, the score heightens its romance, spectacle, suspense, and terror, transforming this silent masterpiece into an immersive concert-cinema experience.
Beneath the grandeur of the Paris Opera House lives a mysterious masked figure who has become obsessed with young singer Christine Daaé. When Christine discovers the truth behind the voice guiding her career, she is drawn into the Phantom’s hidden world beneath the theater, setting in motion a gothic tale of obsession, jealousy, and forbidden love.
A cinematic classic. A live orchestra. An unforgettable night at the movies.

Choose an Austin Prep Education Rooted in Augustinian Values

Austin Preparatory School, located in Reading, Massachusetts, is an independent Catholic prep school rooted in the Augustinian tradition. Serving students in grades 6 through 12, Austin Prep has cultivated a close-knit learning community since its founding in 1961. Guided by its mission to inspire hearts to unite, minds to inquire, and hands to serve, the school challenges students through a rigorous college preparatory program that includes honors and Advanced Placement courses, personalized instruction, and intentionally small classes. An Austin Prep education is preparation for the journey of life. Beyond academics, the school’s unwritten curriculum – the lived expression of veritas, unitas, and caritas (truth, unity, and love) – forms the heart of its mission. “At Austin Prep, we are on a journey that is life-changing and important,” says Head of School James Hickey, Ph.D. “Our patron, St. Augustine, embarked on a journey for the truth. At our core is an institution on the same journey, committed to exemplary teaching and learning.” Serving grades 6–12 under one roof allows this leading prep school to guide students through every stage of development—academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Community stands at the center of this experience, nurturing belonging and inspiring students to lead lives of purpose. Austin Prep athletics teams, competing in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), are recognized among the best north of Boston, reflecting the same drive and integrity found in the classroom. Nearly every graduate continues on to a four-year college, prepared not only for success in higher education but for a meaningful life shaped by faith, friendship, and service.
