Driver in Stolen Car Causes Five-Vehicle Crash, Leaves the Scene

The man asked if the other drivers were OK and even hugged one of the drivers before he left the area. Stoneham Police are looking for him.

Stoneham Police Department is looking for a suspect who was allegedly driving a stolen car that caused a five-vehicle crash on Montvale Avenue Wednesday morning.

Stoneham Police and Fire responded to 101 Montvale Ave., after the crash at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. A driver in a Hyundai sedan rear-ended another vehicle, which started a chain reaction accident that involved five cars.

The driver of the Hyundai left the scene on foot. Police found the vehicle was stolen.

According to Stoneham Police:

“The operator of the Hyundai is described as a white male, in his 30s, bald, wearing a white t-shirt. He was last seen walking across Montvale Avenue to a gas station, where he took off a red sweatshirt and was not seen again. A police K-9 tracked his scent, but the suspect could not be located.

“According to the other drivers involved in the crash, the suspect got out of the Hyundai and walked up to each other driver to ask if they were OK, and he even hugged one of the drivers before he walked away, saying that he was going to call his insurance company,” said police.
