Elderly Stoneham Man Pulled from Single-Car Crash on Berkley Street
A 93-year-old driver swerved to avoid hitting an animal, drove his car off the roadway and hit a tree Thursday afternoon, according to police.

An elderly Stoneham driver drove his car into a tree after avoiding hitting an animal in the road Thursday afternoon on Berkley Street, according to police.
At 12:10 p.m., Stoneham and crews responded to Berkley Street at Evans Road for a report of a single-car crash, according to Police chief Jim McIntyre.
"It was a rollover with entrapment," McIntyre said. "He swerved to avoid hitting an animal, lost control, traveled off the roadway and hit a tree. When he struck the tree, that's when the car tipped over."

The car was reportedly tipped over on the passenger side partly on the grass and the road. A tow truck later removed the vehicle. No passengers were in the vehicle with the driver, according to McIntyre.
The 93-year-old Stoneham man was talking to officers at the scene, according to McIntyre, and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. After being removed from the blue sedan, the man was transported to Leahy Clininc, according to McIntyre.
