As my family has used the fells way to access route 93 for over forty years I've had many occasion to drive past the pool area in Stoneham. I've always thought what a smart idea the wading pool was and the addition of new play equipment last year only enhanced it. I do think that it is unfortunate that the pool itself has been closed. Hopefully it like other things in the area will be reopened soon, as to much change has been under taken by the State without concern to the impact to local residents in the area.
In the mean time there is a public pool down the road in Melrose. There is a skate park (please wear helmets, it's the law until age 17), tennis courts, soccer field, El Pond, and a new dog park. Take the Fellsway to Melrose (avoid going during rush hour, the changing of Ravine Rd. to a one way has only exasperated the already highly dangerous intersection of Pond St. and the Lynn Fells Parkway) at the intersection take a left. At the second set of lights take a right (Tremont St.) you will see the DPW on your right, tennis and parks on left and though hard to see as its up high the pool is just after them, free on street parking. Though it's a small area there is plenty squeezed in to offer something for everyone. Including the Sally Frank Farmers market just up the street (W. Emerson) on Thursdays from 1 - 7:00 PM.
