Five Years Later, 17 From Stoneham Are Ready To Run

Stoneham residents have always enjoyed the test. Whether it's surviving a New England winter or even a full-contact sport like our recent town elections, residents say bring it on. Monday's running of the 122nd Boston Marathon is no different. On the fifth anniversary of the marathon bombings, 17 residents, all Stoneham Strong, will lace'em up and run the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston.

This year the nine women and eight men are all part of the fourth wave, meaning they're running for charity or have received a number from their various running clubs. Speed didn't earn them a bib. But a passion for running and supporting a great cause is their common thread and earned them a spot in the fourth wave.

Among the runners is Allison Cunningham, who will be running for A Leg Forever, a charitable foundation established by Stoneham's Elizabeth Norden in honor of sons JP and Paul who each lost a leg in the bombing April 15, 2013. Along with 264 injured people, 14 others lost limbs that day and the foundation's mission is to assist and support other amputees in dealing with the financial burdens of prosthetic limbs.
