Four People Injured in Route 93 Crash in Stoneham

An unidentified person, who may have been drunk at the time of the accident, is being detained in a wrong-way collision Sunday night on Route 93 north in Stoneham.

A wrong-way driver who may have been drunk in a Sunday night crash on Route 93 north in Stoneham that resulted in four people being sent to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries is being detained by State Police, according to a State Police press statement.

The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. near the Montvale Avenue exit, police said.

The injured parties were taken to Winchester Hospital, and three of the four vehicles involved in the crash were towed from the scene while the fourth sustained minor damage, according to the statement.

Route 93 was closed for approximately one half-hour while Troopers and Stoneham Fire Department worked to help victims and remove the crashed cars, read the statement.

One person has been detained for suspicion of OUI-alcohol related offenses while an investigation is conducted, read the statement.
