Hardly Any Halloween Shenanigans in Stoneham

The holiday proved to be a relatively uneventful one as far as crime is concerned, according to police.

While there were plenty of trick-or-treaters making the rounds to houses on Halloween, it was a rather calm Monday night for the .

"It was relatively quiet from 6 p.m. to midnight," said Lt. Det. Richard McCarthy, who is serving as acting police chief while Richard Bongiorno is away the next two weeks. No arrests were made during that period of time, he added.

Police responded to eight calls for youth checks, with a couple of the reports being unfounded claims of kids throwing eggs and snowballs, according to McCarthy.

McCarthy said police didn't receive any reports of stolen Halloween decorations at houses or vandalism except for a report of some shaving cream found on the building. However, as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, no other schools had reported any vandalism, he said.

In the 33 years he's been with the department, McCarthy said, "This has been one of the quietest Halloweens without a doubt."
