Help Us Honor the Work Of Cameron Bain

Group seeks to place sign on Tri-Community Greenway to honor his work to make bike path a reality.

A release from the friends of Cameron Bain and the Tri-Community Greenway:

We are raising funds for a sign honoring Cameron Bain on the Greenway.

Imagine having a vision and working for over 30 years to make it happen And further consider that the
efforts were for a town and not to benefit oneself. This is the work of Cameron Bain on the Tri-Community Greenway project.

Cameron has been working on turning the railroad right-of- way into a rail trail for 30 years. His vision of
creating a bike path and linear park is finally happening, with the new greenway under construction now. He was also instrumental in creating the Boys & Girls Club here in town. Either would be a great legacy. Together they are amazing.

In 1983 the MBTA sold the old Stoneham branch rail line to the town for alternate transportation and open space. That started the process of creating the space we now call The Greenway. In 1988, the first of several committees was formed to determine the use of the land. In 1997, the state became involved with a feasibility study. With a constant push forward by Mr. Bain, initial design drawings were created in 2005, reviewed by the three towns in 2012 and finalized in 2016.

The vision and passion of Mr. Cameron Bain was vital to making this happen. Now residents are using the Greenway even before it has completed construction. The trail is 6.5 miles connecting Stoneham to Horn Pond in Woburn and Wedgemere Station in Winchester. The Greenway will be used by commuters, joggers and residents on a daily basis for many years to come.

With the Greenway opening this summer, we are raising funds for a sign in Cameron’s honor to be placed on the Greenway.

Please help us honor the legacy of Cameron Bain to Stoneham by donating to create a permanent marker of his contributions to the town of Stoneham. We would like to collect funds from town residents to place a sign at the entrance of the Greenway to recognize Cameron Bain for his efforts. The total cost is likely to be $4,000-$7,000. If each of us give a small amount, that is a very easy number to meet.

Donations can be made in person or mail, payable to C. Bain Greenway Sign Fund, to the following:
