Locals need four points in three games to make playoffs.

Earlier this season, the field hockey team welcomed Wilmington to town and earned a 2-1 victory. What a difference a month makes.

The Lady Wildcats used momentum from Wednesday's tie with unbeaten powerhouse Watertown and cruised to a 4-0 victory on Friday in Wilmington against visiting Stoneham to help improve their playoff resume.

Stoneham, meanwhile, now needs a spark down the stretch if they hope to join the Wildcats in the postseason.

Spartans coach Anna Dobbins' charges need four points in their final three contests to clinch a playoff spot. The team currently sits at 5-6-2 on the year.

Shelley Sullivan and Emily Colosimo each scored in the first half to give Wilmington a 2-0 edge heading into the break.

Then, after the half, Amanda Richards scored in traffic and Colosimo knocked another one home to seal the victory. Stoneham was unable to sustain any significant offensive pressure as Wilmington maintained control of the ball throughout.
