Key to Awesomeness: The spring season is underway and the Spartans are off to a 1-0 start after defeating Medford in their first game of the year. Fagan, who plays third base for Stoneham, got off to a strong start for the Spartans going 2-4 with a run batted in.

“I attribute my success to all the years of baseball I have played and all of the coaches I have had who have been teaching me the game since I first started playing,” Fagan said.

Fagan had high praise for his second-year skipper, admitting that his knowledge of the game could be the reason why the team can be very successful this year.

“ has helped me personally with some defensive positioning and knowledge about in-game situations, but he also works with the pitchers increasing arm strength and pick-off moves as well as composure on the mound,” Fagan said.

At practice, Fagan said the team covers most aspects of the game, but he tries to focus on aspects of the game that may be overlooked.

“I try to focus on a variety of different fundamentals such as arm strength, bat speed and form along with field positioning,” Fagan said. “So far, my hard work has paid off at the plate and I hope that it continues throughout the season.”

Fagan likes the start to the season the Spartans are having and believes the team has enough depth to make noise in the state tournament.

“I believe that the team is very well-rounded,” Fagan said. “We have strength in pitching with Mike Andrews and the Keskinidis’ and with the help of Andrew Cann behind the plate and the bats in our lineup, we have been solid so far from top to bottom. We hope to see the hard work at practice pay off during the season.”
