LEGO Your Mind is Coming This Summer
The LEGO Your Mind tour is making a stop this summer in Wakefield, and Stoneham kids can join in the fun.

This summer Stoneham youngsters will have an opportunity like none before. The LEGO Your Mind camp is hosting weeklong technology and robotic camps for boys and girls in Wakefield.
Kids ages 6-13 can participate at the camps, which will run Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Jim Harvey, the mastermind behind the operation, discussed what the camp will entail and what the younger kids can expect.

“Our younger campers learn the fundamentals of simple machines, how to build robust LEGO structures and how to integrate gears and motors,” Harvey said. “They will also use their creativity and build motorized amusement park and thrill rides.”
Harvey also provided an overview of what the older kids can expect to do at the camp.

“Older campers (can) explore the exciting world of robotics by building and programming objects that can walk, dance and make music. They also create stop motion animation videos,” Harvey said. “Stop motion animation allows the students to use creativity to build scene(s), LEGO characters and create a movie.”
Harvey said that Stoneham families have taken part in the camp before and with the camp being held nearby, he hopes more Stoneham families can attend.
“We had several families from Stoneham travel to Manchester, N.H. for the last two years and they asked if we could have a camp down in the Stoneham area,” Harvey said. “They are thrilled we are coming down and have passed the word about our camp.”
Harvey believes the educational camp can be a successful one.
“Invest in your child’s future and help them reach their full potential by attending an educational camp that’s also lots of great fun,” Harvey said, adding that the camp reinforces science, technology, engineering, math skills, critical thinking, analytical thinking, creativity teamwork, collaboration, innovation and self-esteem.
The camp will be held at the , 1 Church St., from July 11-15 and costs $325 per child. There will also be a half-day camp from Aug. 1-5 that costs $175 per child.
“We have a school enrichment program and occasionally have parties for the kids,” Harvey said. “More importantly we are all state certified teachers with a love for technology and LEGOs. The camp ratio is five-to-one.”
