LETTER: 'Rep. Day is the Right Person to Represent Stoneham in the Coming Years'

Stoneham resident Sharon Iovanni pens a letter to the editor in support of incumbent state representative Michael S. Day.

Dear Editor:

As someone who has worked for more than a year with State Representative Michael Day on resolutions to transportation issues facing the Town of Stoneham, I have been impressed with the record levels of funding and services Representative Day has delivered to improve Stoneham’s infrastructure and transportation options. Although he does not seek credit for of his efforts, Representative Day has brought home unprecedented amounts of money from the State for Stoneham road repairs and infrastructure upkeep.

He has worked seamlessly with the volunteer Stoneham Transportation Advisory Committee. This group meets regularly early in the morning at the Stoneham Senior Center to get a handle on Stoneham’s short and long-term transportation and infrastructure needs, and Representative Day has been an active participant in these meetings and an amazing liaison to state officials with resources that Stoneham desperately needs.

Still only in his first term, Michael Day has already delivered more results for Stoneham’s transportation needs than anyone else has in decades. He was the driving force behind the expansion of MBTA service in Stoneham at a time when the MBTA is cutting spending across the board. He is also already hard at work on a longer-term project to bring a public-private partnership to fruition which would create a public transportation network that would unite Stoneham with the communities surrounding us.

Representative Day has the vision, intelligence, and ability to bring together many different groups for the common good. He is a huge asset to our community, and I thank him for his work. I believe that at this critical time in Stoneham’s history, a State Representative that has forged a positive relationship with key leaders in both parties at the State House, an individual who is clearly able to bring consensus to issues of concern, a resident who cares deeply about his community – and ours – is the right person to represent Stoneham in the coming years.
