LETTER: "Why I Have Decided to Support Challenger Caroline Colarusso"

We are all used to hearing candidates make negative attacks against the opponents and take those attacks with a grain of salt. However, after receiving not one but two different glossy multi-color mailings from the Massachusetts Realtors Independent Expenditure PAC supporting our incumbent State Representative Michael Day, I decided to do some research and look up his campaign finance report which can be found online at the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance. I was very surprised to see how many contributions he had received persons who are registered with the Secretary of State as lobbyists. I counted at least 27 such contributors as well as numerous out of state contributors!

I can understand that the real estate lobby would want to support a legislator who supports its position on subjects like Chapter 40B which is allowing inappropriate apartment construction in our town, but it makes you wonder why a legislator would accept so much support from a special interest group whose interests are contrary to that of his constituents who he is supposed to be representing. I am very concerned about undue influence on legislators which is why I have decided to support the challenger Caroline Colarusso whose campaign finance report I also researched and found no indication of lobbyists contributing to her campaign. Caroline is the only candidate that has the best interests of the people at heart. I support Caroline Colarusso as an educator, a business owner, wife, mother and concerned resident.
