Lights, Cameras, Santa On Stoneham Common
Town celebrates the season by turning out for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting.
Nothing against Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but there's only event that signals the beginning of the holiday season in Stoneham. Santa came to town Sunday and with a flick of the wrist, threw the switch that turned on the lights on Stoneham Common.
Santa made his grand entrance by fire truck shortly after the festivities began, and elves helped him all afternoon as he listened carefully to requests from children. There were pony rides, games, balloon creations, holiday craft making and Santa’s Mailbox.
Residents warmed up with delicious hot food sampling, and hot cocoa and popcorn provided by local Chamber restaurants. Traditional holiday music and current favorites played throughout the Common, and the Girl Scouts of Stoneham led everyone in singing popular carols in front of the big tree. The festivities culminated with the traditional lighting of the big tree in the center of the Common.
