Mashburn Is Uniquely Qualified For School Committee

In a Letter to the Editor, resident say Mashburn has a deep concern for our community and the families and children who call Stoneham home.

A Letter to the Editor from Julie Checca:

I have known Cory Mashburn for three years. We first met during Spring soccer when our daughters were on the same team. I was immediately struck by Cory's enthusiasm while cheering on not only his daughter, but my daughter, as well as the other children on the team. As I have gotten to know Cory better over the years, I have come to realize that this is who Cory is - a parent who cares about all of the children in our community, and who has a deep concern for our community and the families and children who call Stoneham home.

In addition to being a mother to two young children (5 1/2 and 2), I am also a School Adjustment Counselor in a local school district. I, like Cory, have dedicated my professional career to improving the social and emotional well-being of students to help them achieve academic, social, and emotional success. My experience has made it clear that for our young children, the pressures are becoming greater, while their capacities to cope are decreasing. The tragedies that we have seen around the country are no doubt the confluence of these factors. My personal and professional opinion is that prevention is the best way that we can support our community and our children.

As a prevention specialist, Cory is uniquely qualified to lend to the school committee his experience and expertise on these issues, and that it why I feel that he would be an asset to our community as a member of the school committee. I will be using one of my two votes to vote for Cory Mashburn tomorrow, April 3rd.
