MBTA Meeting June 22 to seek feedback on proposed new Stoneham routes
A virtual meeting at 6 PM on June 22 held by the MBTA will solicit feedback from the community on proposed new and enhanced routes.
The CDC/Stoneham Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) is excited to announce that the MBTA Bus Network Redesign has proposed a number of network changes that will enhance ridership and accessibility in the Greater Boston area. Among the proposed changes is the addition of a new Route 133 bus that would travel from Anderson Transportation Center/Woburn via Montvale Avenue through Stoneham Square (providing a connection to the Route 132 bus that is currently in place) and along Franklin Street to Melrose and ending at Malden Station. In addition, the Route 132 bus is proposed to add Sunday service to its schedule.
The MBTA will be hosting a virtual meeting via Zoom to share the proposed network map for our area and to seek feedback from the public on June 22, 2022 at 6 PM. The meeting will be recorded and available for viewing once it concludes. STAC has been lobbying for over seven years with regard to improved multi-modal transportation options, and especially for an East/West connection. The proposed Route 133 is a major step toward fulfilling that connection. The addition of Sunday service to the Route 132 bus would provide Stoneham residents additional access to public transportation into the city on the weekend trips for work or play! STAC member and Stoneham Director of Planning & Community Development Erin Wortman notes that the community “must remember that this will not happen immediately and in fact will take several years to implement, but it is an amazing proposal with so much potential. We encourage everyone to participate in the virtual hearing and to express their opinions with regard to the proposals both at the meeting and via the survey and to share the information with others who may not know about the project.”
STAC members are continuing to work with the hope that the MBTA will extend the Route 99 bus from its current turning point at Executive Park (former hospital site on the Fellsway) to the Fallon Road area and remain hopeful that this too will come to fruition as the site transitions to a bio-medical research facility increasing potential ridership.
