Middle School student field trip to Salem, MA

Last spring, the Stoneham Central Middle School seventh graders visited Salem, MA for an engaging and informative field trip. Students were able to put the knowledge and skills they have been learning in Science and Social Studies classes into practical application.

Students learn about biology and ecosystems in their Science classes and were able to use what they had learned to explore the tide pools at Winter Island. In Social Studies classes, students learn about ancient civilizations and the role that archaeology plays in informing us today about our past. Students had an opportunity to view artifacts from a sunken pirate ship and apply their archaeological knowledge to develop an understanding of how we have come to know and understand what life as a pirate was like several centuries ago.

It was both a fun and educational trip which was made possible through support from the SCMS PTO and a grant from The Stoneham Business and Community Foundation (SBCEF) . SBCEF is a non-profit organization formed to develop a partnership among Stoneham's citizens, educational community, and business sector. Its goal is to promote the personal and educational growth of the town's youth. This organization has generously sponsored many wonderful events at Stoneham Central Middle School throughout recent years, for which we are very grateful.
