Mission Accomplished: SHS Class of 2011 Graduates

Stoneham High School celebrated graduation on Friday at the football field.

Graduates from the Class of 2011 stepped off into their future on Friday, during a commencement ceremony under the lights at the football field.

After student musical performances and speeches from class officers, SHS Principal Donna Cargill and Superintendent Dr. Les Olson awarded diplomas to more than 160 graduating students.

Class President Mary K. Neil, who gave the welcome speech, was also recognized as a recipient of the William M. Nadeau Memorial Award.

After the cermeony, with her proud parents standing by, Neil said she will attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, where she plans to study architecture.

"I don't know what's next, but that's the plan for now," Neil said.

Other award recipients included Patrick Joseph Canavan and Taylor Havican, who both received McDonald Medals.

Other commencement speakers were Class Vice President Joseph Vecchiarello, and Honors Address awardee Joshua A. Kline.

Musical performers included the SHS Spartan Chorale and Melissa Canavan, who sang the song "Happy," accompanied by Alexander Tavares.

School Committee Chairperson Shawn McCarthy was the recipient of the Class Gift, a restoration of the sign at the school entrance on Franklin Street. McCarthy also handed out the diplomas to each graduate.

The Class of 2012 Marshalls, who led the recessional, were Ryan Carino and Colleen O'Quinn.
