Nancy Kerrigan's Brother to Return to Jail

Mark Kerrigan, who was convicted of assault and battery in connection to his father's death in 2010, was ordered Friday to return to a Massachusetts jail for violating his probation, according to a WCVB report.

Stoneham native Mark Kerrigan, brother of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, is returning to a Massachusetts jail, according to a WCVB report.

A Middlesex County judge ordered Mark Kerrigan to return to jail Friday for six more months for violating his probation, according to the report.

Kerrigan had previously asked during the summer to return to jail to complete his sentence rather than follow his probation conditions. His attorney told the judge that the terms of his probation are too much of a financial burden, the Boston Herald reported, and that Kerrigan would rather go back to jail than deal with the terms of his release, which included alcohol counseling, anger management classes and mental health counseling.

His probation officer told the judge that Kerrigan tested positive for alcohol and marijuana, reads the WCVB report. Kerrigan told the judge who agreed to his request, "I found the six months was far less an imposition than the two years of probation," reads the report.

Kerrigan, 47, had been serving his 2 1/2 year sentence at Middlesex House of Correction before his release on July 27. Last May, Kerrigan was found guilty on a single misdemeanor count of assault and battery.
