NH Primary: Twisted Paths To A Smooth Victory
The 3 Republican Candidates still in the race: Haley, Trump and Desantis are crisscrossing the state seeking a strong finish in NH.
MANCHESTER, NH- While debates, town halls and rallies have been soaring over the past eight months; the real decisions are made as the first votes are cast. The Iowa Caucuses, with a different style of vote casting, is the official first, while New Hampshire has the first-in-the-nation traditional primary. Former President and GOP Frontrunner, Donald Trump, won the Iowa Caucuses on Monday with just under 52% of the vote in the Hawkeye State. As a result, candidates Asa Hutchinson and Vivek Ramaswamy suspended their campaigns and threw their support behind Trump ahead of the primaries next week. This leaves three candidates left in the GOP Primary: Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. While polls show Trump could potentially take a second state by storm, DeSantis and Haley have some benefit. Gov. DeSantis is supported by the vice chair of the NH-GOP, Tom Perry; and Amb. Haley is supported by the state’s popular conservative governor, Chris Sununu. Both have actively joined the candidates on the trail. However, more and more New Hampshire voters are starting to raise speculation with the two candidates. Just in recent weeks, Nikki Haley has refused to discuss her association with Trump, and also made a remark that voters in New Hampshire will be “correcting” the votes cast in Iowa. She also was the cause of two debates being canceled, as she refused to participate without Trump on the stage. While DeSantis has been less vocally arrogant with the New Hampshire base, he hasn’t really shown up for them at all. DeSantis has spent the majority of the election season focusing on states such as Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada, and has put New Hampshire campaign stops on the backburner.
The primary will take place on Tuesday January 23rd, and it’s truly anybody’s game. The candidates are stepping up and heading out to earn last minute support this weekend, and it will truly be a deciding factor in the margins and victors that result from the votes cast on Tuesday.
