One Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash in Stoneham

A Chrysler PT Cruiser may have experienced mechanical problems before it crossed lanes and hit a Chevy Malibu head-on Thursday morning in the North and Pope Streets area, according to police.

One person was injured in a two-vehicle, head-on crash Thursday morning in the area of North and Pope Streets in Stoneham, according to .

At 8:27 a.m., police responded to Pope Street for a report of a head-on collision between two vehicles, according to Stoneham Police Chief Jim McIntyre. The vehicles—each carrying one driver with no passengers—involved in the crash were a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Chevy Malibu, according to the police chief.

"The Chevy Malibu was stopped on North Street waiting to make a left turn onto Pope (Street)," McIntyre said. "The Chrysler was traveling on North Street from Wakefield, and the operator said she experienced some mechanical issues with her operating system and the vehicle accelerated abruptly, the Chrysler lost control, crossed over the center line, hitting the Chevy."

One person was transported to for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

While the accident remains under investigation, police don't believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
