Parker Campaign Was About All of You

New selectwoman Parker commits to collaboration and fact-based decision making.

A release from Stoneham's newest Selectwoman, Raymie Parker

My family and I are so very happy about the 2018 election. I cannot thank you enough for the tremendous amount of support you have shown me and the campaign.

This race was not about me or the other candidates, it was about all of us. I am thrilled that we worked together to achieve a common goal. I learned a lot about our neighbors and friends all over this town. We all have a lot more in common than one might think. We all want what is better for the residents, the workers, and the town as a whole. I think we clearly stated that message to you the voters and you stepped up to see this through.

I cannot thank you enough for all the cards, phone calls, texts, emails, and promotion you did to help spread my message in this election. I am so thrilled that we stayed high and above the fray during this campaign. I know some of you were more vocal than you might have liked to be, but you had my back every step of the way. I want you to know that, I will take this seat very seriously, and will work hard for a better Stoneham. I know I will not see eye to eye with everyone, but please know that the decisions that come my way will be based on fact and deliberation. This is the start of a big commitment, and I'm happy to take it on.

On a special note: My campaign was never about race, ethnicity, or orientation and it did not come into play. However, you and I made history. I am the first woman of color to be elected to the Board of Selectman. Someone pointed that out to me, and I did have to acknowledge this. Last week was the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's assassination in Memphis, Tennessee and it was also the day I got to be sworn in at the age of 50 on the Stoneham Board of Selectman. This is quite important to me, my family, and this community.

The most important thing for me in this journey was making some very close relationships closer and meeting and engaging with new friends young and old who wanted to heard and become involved. The voters have spoken, and now it's my turn to return the favor.

Thank you all again, Raymie #wearebettertogether
