Pioneers And Pitches Lead SJS Baseball To MIAA D1 Top Seed

SHREWSBURY, MA- St. John’s in Shrewsbury is the regular season top seed for MIAA D1 Baseball. With a 2.26 margin and only four losses for the entire season, the Pioneers are truly walking on sunshine with a guaranteed bidto the playoffs. The team is made up of nine seniors who began their high school career during the height of the pandemic, and have been longing for success that is now on the horizon. Senior Captain Jack Roche has had the most statistical successthis season on the field, and is well respected across the team for his great skill and standards. When asked about the team and the season, he commented “It is entirely a team effort. I come to practice every day looking to perform my best, and I expect that from the rest of the team. It’s truly one team, one goal”. He is looking forward to the possibility of winning a championship ring with the Pioneers one last time before he continues onto USC to play for the Gamecocks this fall. Assistant Coach Jeff Bercume is an alum of the school, and was on their 2005 championship team. He expressed his pride for this team and the hard work they have put forward against high-performance conference competitors. He also described Roche as a “true leader” and someone who would always “take one for the team”. Their final regular season game will be Wednesday before taking on their road to victory starting next week.
