POLICE LOG: Stoneham Man Charged With Attempted Arson

At 8:30 a.m. June 24, Stoneham police responded to Main Street for a disturbance call about an unwanted man at the residence. Shortly thereafter, a box alarm was activated on a report of a natural gas leak in the building. The male suspect, described as wearing black shorts, a red shirt and had a crewcut, fled through the back door. A K-9 broadcast was put out and a State Police K-9 team was en route. The gas was shut off to the second floor of the building, and the box was recalled at 9:02 a.m. The suspect was located, and after a foot pursuit was caught and taken into custody. John Christian, 30, of 505 Main St., Stoneham, was arrested and charged with malicious or wanton damage of property, assault with a dangerous weapon, violating a abuse prevention order, attempted arson of a dwelling house and disorderly conduct.

@11 a.m.: Police called to the area of Main and North Streets for a report of a two-car accident with personal injuries. One vehicle was towed and one person taken to Winchester Hospital.

@12:41 p.m.: Police responded to Steele Street on a report of lost property. The caller reported their trash barrel on wheels was put out sometime June 21 for pickup on June 22 when the barrel went missing.

@6:28 p.m.: Police called to Hancock Street for a report of vandalism. However, officers found no vandalism in the area.

@9:19 p.m.: Police made a motor vehicle stop in the area of Collincote and Main Streets. Gilmar Da Silva, 39, of 136 Main St., Stoneham, was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle/trailer and a motor vehicle lights violation.
