Check out some of the interesting stories from the Stoneham area last week.

MALDEN — Gary Christenson, Malden's first new mayor elect in 16 years, said he hopes to bring more technology, efficiency and visibility to the corner office.
But first, he's going to have to get his voice back.
“This is just water, by the way,” he joked, sipping from two plastic cups of ice water during an interview outside of his victory party Tuesday night.

MEDFORD — Former President Bill Clinton said it burns him up when people compare President Barack Obama unfavorably to him, he's okay with paying more in taxes as part of the one percent, and thinks recently elected conservative congress people "must be stunned" at how quickly their approval ratings have dropped.
Clinton delivered the Fares Lecture at Tufts University Sunday evening. Thousands lined up outside the Gantcher Center on the Tufts Campus for the high security event.

Reading Alum Ran Inside Boston Blaze
READING — A Reading resident at a party in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood saw a neighboring building ablaze and didn't even think of standing by when he heard that someone might be inside.
“I just ran in,” Intoni said. “I wasn’t really thinking about it.”
WINCHESTER — Superintendent William McAlduff told Lynch Elementary School parents that he failed to follow-up on a waiver request in an attempt to delay school choice. Over a hundred Lynch parents filled the school cafeteria Wednesday night to ask questions and share concerns they had over the school’s recent MCAS sores.
The MCAS results were released earlier this fall and identified the Lynch School for “Improvement – Year 1” in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math for all subgroups under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
Since Lynch is a Title I school and a school that needs improvement, the district is required to give parents a school choice option.
