Regional News Roundup: Shooting Victim Calls 911 Before Passing Out

MEDFORD — After being shot in the chest outside his Boston Avenue home in Medford Sunday night, Corey Audino, 27, called 9-1-1 and identified his attacker before he fell unconscious, police said. Damon Gentile, 33, of Gardener was later arrested in Leominster and charged with assault with intent to murder. He appeared in Somerville District Court Monday morning, where he was ordered held without bail.

The shooting occurred at 5A Boston Ave. about 7:40 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, Corey Audino, 27, called in the shooting himself and told the operator Gentile shot him before he fell unconscious, according to a police report, written by Medford police Sgt. James Perillo. Audino's condition was unavailable Tuesday afternoon, according to a Massachusetts General Hospital spokesman.

MELROSE — Melrose continues to see a decline in foreclosure activity in 2011, according to the latest figures from The Warren Group, matching a statewide decline from a tough 2010. Year-to-date, there have been 17 foreclosure petitions filed against Melrose properties, compared to 47 through the same time period in 2010—a decrease of almost 64 percent.

READING — Quinlan Junta, son of "hockey dad" Thomas Junta who was convicted for killing another father at a Reading hocket practice, died on Sunday. The younger Junta, a stand-out hockey player, had his own problems with the law after he was charged with assault and theft charges following a Reading robbery in February.

WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Police arrested a Burlington man on Friday who is suspected of breaking into homes in several nearby communities and stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

Robert Swenson, 27, of 11 Seven Springs Lane in Burlington was stopped around 10 a.m. on Oct. 21st for having a suspended registration while he was driving on Salem Street in Wakefield in a 1996 Buick Skylark. Police said Swenson was immediately suspected of committing several recent robberies in Lexington, Wilmington, North Andover, Burlington and Billerica, where jewelry was stolen from homes.
