Root beer floats, traditionally know as a “black cow” or “brown cow,” have become a staple of the American summer since soda vendor Robert McCay Green invented them in 1874. Legend has it that during the Franklin Institute’s semicentennial celebration, Green ran out of ice for his soda products and decided to instead use ice cream. The treat was an instant sensation and quickly grew in popularity throughout the country.

“I am really looking forward to a fun time at this event,” said Representative Day. “I think it’s just a nice way to take a break during the summer to say thank you to our residents and recapture a little bit of our youth.”
