Greater Boston Stage Company performances run until Nov. 11.

A release from our friends at the Greater Boston Stage Company:

Greater Boston Stage Company's second Don Fulton New Play Project, The Salonnières opens Thursday in Stoneham.

By acclaimed playwright, Liz Duffy Adams, The Salonnières, set in pre-Revolutionary Paris, is an evening filled with fairytales, facades, and the feminist revolution. Directed by Producing Artistic Director Weylin Symes, performances run Oct. 25 – Nov. 11.

“The moment I read Liz’s witty, anachronistic, fantastical riff on the lead-up to the French Revolution, I was hooked," said Symes. "The play is smart, funny and has something to say about our world today. Creating new theatre entails risks. After all, who really knows if a play is going to work well on-stage until you’ve tried? As a director, there’s no blue-print - no-one to ask ‘hey, how did you make this scene work?’ If you’re anything like me, that’s the most exciting part of new work: the possibility of discovering something wonderful before anyone else.”

The Don Fulton New Play Project is named after the donor whose major philanthropic commitment made it possible. Don Fulton passed in May 2018 and he was an irreplaceable friend and benefactor to GBSC.

Don’s financial gifts were specifically geared toward supporting ongoing efforts to produce new work and, for a mid-sized professional theatre, there truly is no greater gift. We will honor his memory by continuing to create the very best theatre we can,” shares Managing Director Amy Morin.

This project represents Greater Boston Stage Company’s pledge to produce a World Premiere play each year as part of the Mainstage series. Playwright Liz Duffy Adams said, “I’m thrilled to be working with GBSC on the world premiere of my play, The Salonnières—their commitment to new work and collaborative process is exactly what I love to be involved in.”

The Salonnières cast features Lisa Joyce, Laura Latreille, Elainy Mata, Bill Mootos, and Sarah Newhouse. The design team is comprised of Scenic Designer Katy Monthei, Projection Designer Christine Banna, Lighting Designer Chris Fournier, Costume Designer Gail Astrid Buckley, Sound Designer and Young Company Alum Caroline Eng, and Props Master Emme Shaw.
