Serving Up Success: Prep Tennis Takes Top Seed

The St. John's Prep Tennis team is officially the MIAA D1 top seed heading into the second half of the spring season.

DANVERS, MA- St. John’s Prep is notable for bringing home bulk shipments of championship trophies across their 25 different sports. However, SJP Tennis has fallen short of victory the past several years. Determined to set a new standard, the team set a new foundational strategy, and stuck to it. With a healthy balance of old and new leadership, it has been certainly the winning combination. Veteran Head Coach and Peabody Resident, Mark Metropolis, just celebrated his 500th career win with the Eagles. He is very proud of his accomplishments, but was quick to put the team in the spotlight for their hard work and dedication. “It is truly a great team, and I am very lucky to work with these young men”, said Metropolis through correspondence. He also notably highlighted Junior Captains and brothers, Jack and Luke Prokopis. Having been with the team since their Freshman year in 2021, they have demonstrated great leadership and skill. They were also spotlighted on the Boston Globe in 2023 (Paywall Free Link Here) not only for their performance but also for their legacy. The Prokopis name is very familiar to Coach Metropolis and the Eagles tennis franchise, as their older brother Mikey, was a tennis starter back in the 2018 class. It is for this, and their already proven undefeated 10-0 record, that a championship bid almost a decade in the making is becoming more and more clear. The team has already secured a MIAA playoff bid, and is top across several rankings statewide. The path is now easier, but victories must still be served up through the next half of the season. Then, the Eagles might find the finishing touch to yet another title.
